What is Reflections?

Reflections is a national cultural arts program designed to enhance quality arts education for students in preschool through grade 12. For nearly 40 yrs the Reflections Program has encouraged millions of students worldwide to explore their artistic talents. Last year over 3,800 students participated in the North Carolina PTA Reflections Program! Reflections provides students with an opportunity to express themselves creatively while receiving positive recognition on a school, community, state, and possible national level.

The 2011 – 2012 Theme: “Diversity Means….”

Students may submit works in any of the 6 arts area categories.

Photography Video/Film Production Literature

Dance Choreography Musical Composition Visual Arts

Who can participate?

The competition is open to every student at DDMS.

Basic Rules:

Students can submit multiple entries in any or all of the 6 categories.
Entries can be created at school or home but must be the original design and work of one student only (no outside assistance).
Entries can be performed by someone other than the student. Ex: If a student writes a musical composition or choreographs a dance it can be performed by another musician or dancer.
Each entry must include an artist’s statement describing how it relates to the 2011 – 2012 theme “Diversity Means…”
Blind judging will take place for all entries.
All entries will be judged in the middle/junior division, grades 6-8 with the exception of special needs entries.
Students must adhere to the official ncpta rules which are available (see below).
1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd place winners for each category will be awarded at DDMS. 12 DDMS winners will move on to the next level of competition (PTA Council).
